So here I am with my son at a bookstore trying to engage him into solving some puzzles from a book, when another kid nearby is reading to herself. She does not look much older than my 3-year old.But she is obviously doing a better job at the reading than mine is doing at the solving. The perennial guilt strikes. Am I not teaching my kid enough? At this rate I can list I dont know how many such guilts that strike at the most inopportune times.I also hoping that some of you who read this list, will nod your heads in affirmation on atleast a few if not all.
Guilt for not be able to give enough time to the child/husband/family/friends/yourself etc.etc
Guilt for eating that extra slice of pizza/cake/chocolate or drinking that one extra shot or smoking that one more cigarette etc. etc.
Guilt for not saving enough water/trees,not doing enough to save the environment etc etc.
Guilt for buying on an impulse that gadget which you may never use, that funky jeans with the hope to fit in them someday and this list can really go on, I guess
Guilt for throwing food or wasting food after serving yourself that extra, which you knew you would not eat in the first place.
Guilt for printing that document just like that
Guilt for not stopping on the road for someone who needed help, just cause you were getting late to get to a party!
Guilt for getting credit for work that was not yours ( if such a thing exists that is..)
Guilt for not participating in an Anna-type anti-something movement!
I could go on with this list for like ever...but then I guess these the realities of life and obviously we dont live in an utopian era where we can all absolve ourselves of such guilt(s).
Maybe its a good thing to feel these once in a way,it makes us believe that we still have a conscious and that we are still conscientious with our hearts.
Yes at times it is overwhelming for me and I dont know how to deal with these, but does that mean I want them to go away completely or that I do things differently so as to not let these guilt(s) creep up on me...I dont think so.Cause I may do one thing differently today to get away from one of the above, but then out of a list of say 10 if one didnt crop up ,it would not matter much. The nine other would still be staring in my face!
P.S: Read on a tent card in an eco-friendly hotel " Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, can save 5-10 lts of water".My question: But what if I am brushing while,I am in the shower?
